For several years, Sister Marie Becker has designed one-of-a-kind Christmas cards for Vincentian Collaborative System (VCS) in Pittsburgh.
To create this year’s card, Sister Marie used inspiration from her trip to India seven years ago. While visiting with SCNs there, Sister Marie saw an altar. The memory of its beauty has stayed with her.
Sister Marie, who spent many years as a teacher, earned her art degree in 1999. In addition to the Christmas card, her creations over the years have included fabric collages, oil paintings, and ceramics to just name a few. She enjoys spending time in her art studio at Nazareth (see photo) and creating a variety of beautiful pieces.
Sister Marie has visited the Pittsburgh Sisters several times, but says she doesn’t get to visit as much as she’d like. So this project for VCS has special meaning, including its connection to her time in India.
“I like the idea of it being a way to reach out to our Sisters in Pittsburgh, and I love Christmas, too. This is a nice way to wrap it all up in one package.”
