The Executive Committee meetings are underway. Present for the meetings: SCNs Mary Elizabeth Miller, Susan Gatz, Teresa Kotturan (by Skype), Sangeeta Ayithamattam and Judy Raley. Members of the Extended Executive Council, Vice Provincials Basanti Lakra, Brenda Gonzales, Reena Theruvankunnel, and Adeline Fehribach are present for meetings and discussion.
Today began with a prayer of blessing in celebration of Sister Mary Elizabeth’s birthday. Sister Reena led the prayer which included words of gratitude for Sister Mary Elizabeth and her willingness to say “yes” to a life of ministry. Following the prayer, Sister Mary Elizabeth thanked each person present saying they were a “gift to the Congregation.”
Sister Teresa joined the meeting via Skype from Patna, India. She presented reports on the UN-NGO, the Corporate Responsibility and Systemic Change committees, and the work of the Global Ministries Team. She reported on our Mission in Botswana and highlighted the arrival of Vimala Karakattu, SCN, from India, to begin ministry in Metsimotlabe.
Sister Susan gave an update on the work of both the Bicentennial and Publication Committees. She presented a report on our Mission in Belize and the work taking place in Las Flores and Belize City.
Sister Susan also introduced the new Director of Archives, Kathy Hertel-Baker. Kathy spoke about her background and shared some of her goals for archives in the coming months and years.
Sister Mary Elizabeth gave on update on the Charity Federation and areas of collaboration. She also spoke about the Apostolic Visitation. There are no new developments at this time as she awaits the arrival of the questionnaire, which is the second phase of the Visitation process. Discussion followed regarding the Ministry Fund.
Patsy O’Toole, Director of the Office of Congregational Advancement, joined today’s meeting in the afternoon. While giving an overview of recent accomplishments, she highlighted volunteer immersions, fundraising, and communications.
EC Meetings began on Saturday, August 1. Charity Federation UN-NGO Representative, Caroljean Willie, SC, shared a presentation with members of the Executive Committee. The UN–NGO representative also gave a presentation before members of the SCN Family gathered in St. Vincent Church.
Sunday, August 2, members of the EC/EEC spent the afternoon at Bethany Spring. They had quiet time for prayer, reflection and sharing in the beautiful surroundings, followed by a delicious supper.
Meetings continue tomorrow. Tuesday evening Leadership will host Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz for supper and a video presentation about SCNs in ministry around the world.
