Elizabeth (Betty) Shelton, SCN, 87, formerly Sister Marie Ellen Shelton, a native of Paducah, Kentucky, died at Nazareth Home, Louisville, Kentucky on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014. She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 69 years.

Sister served in elementary education as both teacher and principal for 24 years in Kentucky and Tennessee. In Louisville Sister served at St. Cecilia School from 1948-52; at St. Thomas More School as teacher from 1961-68; as principal at St. Martha School from 1968-69 and as principal at St. Thomas More School from 1969-72. Sister then served as DRE at St. Thomas-St. Vincent Home from 1972-76 and as Director of Pastoral Care at Nazareth Home, Louisville from 1978-80. Sister has been serving in the Apostolate of Prayer at Nazareth Home, Louisville since April, 2010.

Sister also served in health care at Nazareth Home Health, in Pastoral Ministry at Flaget Hospital, Bardstown, Kentucky; and in Outreach Patient Care at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky.

Survivors include one brother, George Shelton II of Wilmette, Illinois; nieces and nephews in Illinois, Texas, Kentucky, and California, and her religious community.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Vincent Church, Nazareth, Kentucky, with burial in Nazareth Cemetery, Nazareth.

Visitation will be at Nazareth Home, Louisville from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Monday, December 29, and after 4:00 p.m. in St. Vincent Church, Nazareth. There will be a Prayer Service in St. Vincent Church at 6:30 p.m. Monday evening.
