Haritalika Teej is the greatest festival of Hindu women all over Nepal, which is celebrated for marital happiness, purification of one’s body and soul and to welcome the monsoon season. It is celebrated primarily by girls and women, with songs, dancing, and variety of food and prayer rituals. Around 100 women belonging to the women entrepreneurs of small scale industries and some belonging to our Self Help groups gathered at Navjyoti center Dharan to celebrate this feast on August 24, 2017. It was a colorful and noisy event as the women came dressed up in beautiful shades of red, green and gold. There was much singing and dancing. The women wanted me to join them and hence they brought a red sari for me to wear and dance with them. After the grand celebration, all of us enjoyed delicious Nepali food. The wild cherry trees and the greenery of our compound rendered conducive environment for photo shooting and selfies!
