Nazareth School celebrated Grameen Utsav (village fest) and Karnataka Rajyothsava (Karnataka Day) on Nov. 6, 2016. Fairs and festivals are common in Indian villages. Bringing the same experience to an academic institution was one of the most adventurous moment for us here at Nazareth School, Chandapura, Bangalore.

The month of November is dedicated to the celebration of Statehood of Karnataka. Mr. Yogesh, a renowned writer in Kannada, was the Chief Guest. Hoisting the state flag, Mr. Yogesh spoke elegantly about the cultural heritage and the rapid development of the state.

Grameen Utsav saw the school campus filled with various village games, temporary shops and food made with traditional Indian recipes. Each food stall was unique in its kind and taste. The entertainment segment included bullock cart rides, Tractor rides, potter’s wheel, Lagori, a game played popularly in Indian villages with a ball and a pile of flat stones. For our students who are city bred, it was an experience to cherish and behold as history of the country and the state was brought forth to them through traditional food and the village games. The event was not just food and games, there were also many stage performances. We had the opportunity to listen to the BVS (Bahujan Vidhyrathi Sangh – students’ association) who sang some of the finest songs. Another team led by Mr. Santhosh entertained the visitors with their dancing skills. It was indeed a memorable day for the students, teachers and parents alike.
