We got word that Bishop Emmanuel Barbara OFM (Cap.) died on January 5th morning. He is one of the Bishops the Kenya Exploration Team had visited. We were inspired by his passion for social justice and human rights. Vinaya from Botswana called Bernard Malassi, the priest from Malindi who accompanied us on our visits and this is her message:

On Thursday Fr. Malassi was with Bishop Barbara for a series of meetings including the ministry the Bishop invited the SCNs to collaborate with, to stop trafficking of young girls. As usual, he went to bed. Since he did not come out in the morning they checked on him and he was found dead. They think he passed on at early hours of the night. I have communicated our condolences and said that we are greatly shocked.”

Please pray for the diocese, his family and his Franciscan community in Malta.
