SCN Lay Mission Volunteer Program

Tuesday proved to be another eventful day for the SCN lay mission volunteers from St John’s in Hollywood, MD, who are working here in sunny Belize City. The day began with the team visiting Hand in Hand Ministry’s Outreach Center located in Belize City, before heading to the worksite to complete the construction of all four of the walls that will make up the outside of Ms. Delvorine’s new home. Immediately after the boards were hammered into place, the first coat of bright yellow paint was applied by the eager volunteers. The yellow color, which was chosen by Ms. Delvorine herself, will be accompanied by black for the trim. These particular shades represent the colors of the Garifuna flag. The Garifuna are descendants of Carib, Arawak, and West African people. Today the Garifuna live primarily in Central America.
