After the first year of service of the Room in the Inn program in Nelson County, Kentucky, a winter shelter for homeless men, women, and families, the need arose for supplies to participants who transitioned to permanent residences. Sister Janet Ballard and the mission committee came up with the idea for gathering these needed items as gifts at Christmas time at Nazareth.

“Employees have shown much interest in the Room in the Inn program since its beginnings and have looked for opportunities to be involved. This Christmas we thought it would be a great way for employees to be a part of it,” says Sister Janet. “It is out of the goodness of their hearts in wanting to be involved in the very important program that it was so successful.”

All departments were involved, nine overflowing welcome basket with all the supplies you would need to start a new home were donated. Three of these baskets will be going out in January to recipients. A veteran who has been staying in his car and two women from Bethany Haven, a shelter home for battered women and children.

Sister Janet would like to thank all of the employees of the SIsters of Charity of Nazareth who graciously donated supplies and to the Room in the Inn task force, which includes herself, Barry McGuffin, Bill Osbourne, Dee and Tom Vernon, Rev. Karl Lusk.
