Asha Niwas, “House of Hope”, provides a home, an education and a safe environment for children from broken homes near Delhi, India. Presently, the current facility can only house a small number of the 105 children in their care. Staff members arrange for the children to attend boarding schools and continue to follow these children. The children come back to Asha Niwas during the holidays, which results in an extremely crowded situation.

Asha Niwas has embarked on an extension project to construct a home that will be large enough to house all the children under one roof, providing added stability and security to the children’s lives. The goal is to create a family environment, so that these children feel safe and loved, and are better able to study and acquire skills for a life of dignity. The new facility will be able to house 150 girls.

On April 15, Sisters of Charity of Nazareth gathered at the construction site for a ceremony of blessing of the small house which was built for Sisters Pauline and Teresa Xavier who will oversee the construction project. Beena Chirackal, SCN, director of Asha Niwas, writes that the foundation of the new building is laid and “100 strong pillars are up.”
