Gn. 49:2, 8-10; Ps. 72:1-4, 7-8; Mt. 1:1-17

“Teach your chosen one to govern your people rightly and bring justice to the oppressed. The mountains will bring the people peace and the hills justice!” Ps. 72:2-3

Now the Church begins the Great O Antiphons. Each night at vespers, we call out for our promised salvation more intently as we

  • prepare to commemorate the birth of Jesus
  • anticipate the second coming of Jesus, who will order all things rightly
  • petition for help in creating a better world now

Today, we start by calling upon Wisdom:

“O Wisdom, you come forth from the mouth of the Most High. You fill the universe and hold all things together in a strong yet gentle manner. O come to teach us the way of truth.”

Psalm 72 celebrates the day of Jesus’ coming: Justice will flourish and peace will last forever.

O come, Wisdom, so that I know my way today; help me set my priorities to co-create with you, a world of peace and justice as You would have it.

How does one be a harbinger of justice and peace?
