“On that day a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse and from its roots a bud shall blossom.” Is. 11:1
Do you remember the last time you peered at a planter with childlike wonder waiting for a sprout to burst forth from the soil? One day when you had almost lost your attention, the tiniest green shoot appeared. And while the fullness of the bud is still long off, hope is confirmed. Life is forcing its way into existence – through the breaking open of the seed’s cover and pushing up through the soil toward the warmth of the sun.
On this SCN Foundation Day and the anniversary of my entrance into the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, I reflect with gratitude at how the tiny sprout of my call has taken root and begun to bud. In the fertile soil of this SCN community, Jesus and I have been grafted together and my once tiny shoot of faith is blossoming in strong, new and unexpected ways.
Emmanuel, slow me down this Advent season so that I might take the opportunity to peer with childlike wonder and awe at the tiny shoot of faith that is growing within and around me.
There are many more shoots to come. Watch for them this Advent season.
