In a historical move, 14 novices along with their director, Amelia Moras, SCN, and Jane Karakunnel, SCN, the assistant, moved into their new home called BETHEL. This creative initiative will provide the novices a simple living setting to realize the goal of “formation in mission.” The blessing ceremony on July 18 included a prayer service. Provincial Sangeeta Ayithamattam, SCN, cut the ribbon and blessed the house with the flame, while Rev. Alwyn D’Souza, the parish priest of Mokama, sprinkled holy water after the ritual prayer. Sister Amelia broke a coconut as a symbol of total surrender to God. Sister Sangeeta announced the name of the new novitiate site as “BETHEL”, the house of God. The novices have formed a new meaning for BETHEL:” Become an instrument of God by Empowering ourselves with Trust in the providence of God and in Hope and Enthusiasm we share our Love with everyone.

The gathering was graced by approximately 25 SCNs from the campus and neighboring communities, the parish and Jyoti Bhavan communities, coworkers and collaborators. The Archbishop William D’Souza, SJ, of Patna surprised them with a visit in the evening and encouraged the novices to enter into this holistic formation program whole-heartedly. Those living in the new house are grateful to God and all those who worked hard to provide them with this new home — BETHEL.
