Every year, Sisters in Mokama, India celebrate the feast of our patron, St. Vincent de Paul in September. In preparation for the feast, members of the SCN family make nine-day Novenas, attend seminars on life and virtues of St. Vincent and make retreats.

Jane Karakunnel, SCN, reflects that St. Vincent had a special love for the holy Eucharist and Blessed Sacrament. It was the source of spiritual energy and inspiration for his missionary activities for the poor.

Since 2001, every September Sister Jane prepares about 25 children for First Holy Communion at Mokama parish, the place where SCN history was first planted in India in December 1947. She says, “This is my way of getting ready spiritually to celebrate the feast of St. Vincent.”

Sister Jane adds, “St. Vincent gives me the enthusiasm and energy to visit and pray with the families of these children in order to prepare them for this happy event. I experience great joy and happiness in preparing this gift offering for St. Vincent close to celebrating his feast day.”
